The tangible measure “EficiênciaH20 – Eficiência Energética nos Sistemas de Bombagem de Água” has the objective to intervene transversally in three types of existing pumping systems, which comprise the majority of the municipalities' pump fleet, whether in their buildings or in public water supply. This measure aims to promote energy efficiency in water transport and conveyance. Since water is often analyzed from the perspective of its scarcity and conservation, the energy component associated with its movement, availability for use, and quality of use is sometimes overlooked. As at least these three factors are highly relevant, the aim was to develop a measure that would highlight the importance of these uses and project a future intervention model and its benefits.
The Municipalities have a significant number of pumps, ranging from pumps used in public supply and water collection, to circulation pumps in their buildings for air conditioning and water heating systems, or water recirculation and treatment in municipal swimming pools. Municipalities are thus constituted as priority entities for transversal intervention in their pump park, immediately raising an alert for an area of future intervention without forgetting any of its components.
The implementation of this measure foresees the replacement of 6 large municipal water supply and intake pumping units with obsolete global technology, and also includes intervention in pumping systems in buildings, whether associated with water treatment and recirculation for swimming pools or circulation in air conditioning systems and domestic hot water production.
As a benefit of implementing this measure, it results in savings of 518,430 kWh/year in electricity. Considering the reference values published by ERSE in the "Evaluation of tangible measures PPEC 7th edition - Parameters" for the "Commerce and Services" sector and for the reduction of CO2 emissions, €0.1032/kWh avoided plus €0.0017/kWh avoided, we can estimate the annual financial impact of this measure at at least 54.383,30€/year.
