The tangible measure “EduLUX 2, 3+ – Eficiência Energética na Iluminação Interior de Escolas” aims to improve energy efficiency in interior lighting in at least 51 schools (both middle and high schools, some of which are also secondary schools) and higher education institutions (in the case of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal) in the municipalities of Barreiro, Moita, Montijo, Alcochete, Setúbal, Palmela, Sesimbra, and Loures, also contributing to improving the comfort and visibility conditions for users in the areas where interventions are carried out.
The Measure EduLUX 2, 3+ follows the "EduLUX – Energy Efficiency in the Internal Lighting of Basic Schools" measure, approved within the scope of the PPEC 2017/2018 and implemented with extraordinary success. The result of the measure was so positive that it led us to move forward with the EduLUX 2, 3+ now aimed at middle and high schools (also in some cases secondary schools) and higher education.
Just like in EduLUX, the EduLUX 2, 3+ will focus on replacing tubular fluorescent lighting of the T8 type with LED lighting of the LED Tube type. This replacement is the simplest and most effective, as it can be carried out directly, which significantly reduces implementation costs, and, in the case of EduLUX 2, 3+ , these costs are not attributed to PPEC since the municipalities will use their own resources to install the equipment.
The implementation of this measure involves replacing 47,190 T8 fluorescent tube lights with LED tube lights.
The benefits of implementing this measure result in savings of approximately 3.654.828 kWh/yearconsidering the reference values published by ERSE in the "Evaluation of tangible measures PPEC 7th edition - Parameters" for the "Commerce and Services" sector and for the reduction of CO2 emissions, €0.1032/kWh avoided plus €0.0017/kWh avoided, we can estimate the annual financial impact of this Measure at at least 383.391€/year..
In order to maximize the multiplier effect of the measure, at the end of the project a portfolio of the interventions carried out and the results obtained will be produced, which will be made available, in digital and paper format, to all potential stakeholders.
